The National Year of Reading 2026 is the most ambitious campaign of its kind in a generation, designed to help more people (re)discover the joy of reading and make it part of everyday life.

Reading expands our world and sharpens our minds, yet fewer people are making time for it. Led by the Department for Education in collaboration with the National Literacy Trust, the campaign responds to a significant decline in reading enjoyment across the UK. Its call to action is simple but powerful: Go All In on what you love, and discover how reading can deepen those passions be they music, football, baking, family time, sci-fi, or anything in between.
For Superspree, solving the global generosity crisis starts with a simple idea: when people experience genuine awe and connection, they are more likely to care, to give, and to act.
The National Year of Reading presents a rare opportunity to bring that idea to life in new and exciting ways.
Reading is one of the most accessible ways to experience awe. A single book can shift a mood, spark a new perspective, or open the door to an entirely different world. At the same time, reading sits at the heart of literacy, opportunity, and participation, especially for children and communities too often left behind.
Superspree exists to create more of these “wow” moments and turn them into a force for good through everyday giving. This campaign provides the perfect canvas to show how stories, community, and generosity can reinforce one another.
At its heart, our campaign brings together three groups united by a shared belief in the power of stories:
Bookshops as local hubs of curiosity, conversation, and community
Charities and non-profits working to improve literacy, learning, and life chances
An award-winning publisher creating books that challenge, inspire, and stay with you
And, of course, Superspree. We’re connecting these worlds through moments of awe and acts of giving.
Throughout 2026, we will be creating a series of special moments and experiences that:
Celebrate the vital role of bookshops on our high streets and in our communities
Highlight the power of books to create awe; the “I can’t put this down” and “I never thought of it like that” moments
Champion reading as a gateway to confidence, opportunity, and participation
This campaign is designed to feel exciting. From in-store experiences and creative collaborations to digital moments of surprise and delight, every touchpoint is designed to bring people together around stories and to spark the sense of awe that sits at the heart of Superspree.
As the National Year of Reading unfolds, we will be sharing more ways to get involved whether you are a reader, a bookshop, a charity, or all three at once.
