Q: What is the Offering Plate?
A: The Offering Plate is a type of cardless donation device designed to make it easy for religious settings to raise funds for their organisation.
Q: What is a cardless donation device?
A: A cardless donation device (like the Offering Plate) is a device that works by allowing your donor to make a donation using their mobile phone, specifically their mobile wallet. They do this by holding their NFC enabled phone up to the device, then hold, wait and donate via the prompts on their phone screen.
Q: Is it safe?
A: Yes, it is safe. Donations are safe because the donor uses their authentication method to make sure there is no fraud. The donation goes straight to the bank account nominated by the non-profit or charity.
Q: What happens if it gets stolen?
A: The device is fully encrypted and no-one can tamper with the donation flow of the device. If it is stolen, then it has no re-sale value so the only thing that can happen is that it gets destroyed or someone makes an additional donation.
Q: Is it waterproof?
A: Yes, it is fully waterproof, windproof and robust.
Q: Why is it better than a QR code?
A: Our tests show that QR codes produce lower amounts of donations than the Offering Plate. This is for two reasons:
the act of presenting your phone to a Offering Plate is more similar to making a payment than scanning a QR code.
the rise of 'quishing' (fraud happening as a result of fake QR codes) is making people more wary about using a QR code to transfer money.
Q: Why is it better than a normal payment terminal?
A: Payment terminals need power and wifi to work, whereas the Offering Plate requires no power and no wifi. This means that your fundraisers don't need to remember to charge it, don't need to worry about connectivity and don't need to press multiple buttons to process the donation.
Q: What is the donor journey like?
A: The donor journey has four steps:
select donation amount - either by confirming from one option or from a selection of four options.
confirm and complete the donation step
enter email address to receive a receipt, gift aid declaration or further information from your organisation.
a Thank You message.
Q: Can I customise the donor journey?
A: Yes - you can customise by adding your logo, colour scheme and tailored messaging.
Q: I'm already signed up to an online donation page. Do I have to create another account?
A: No - you can connect your Offering Plate to your existing online donation page. This may be better for your administrative processes.
